War, Huh -

Many in this chamber understand that America must not fail in Iraq because you understand that the consequences of failure would be grievous and far reaching," the president said. "If American forces step back before Baghdad is secure, the Iraqi government would be overrun by extremists on all sides."

Hmm. Kind of like...our government.

"In such a case, he forecast 'an epic battle'..."

and smacked his lips 'n
twirled his spurs.

Jesus Christ what a load of horseshit!

I can't for the life of me understand why no reporter ever calls them on this crap.

Let's assume, just for a minute, that the white house position is true, that we are in a war with terrorists and evildoers throughout the world. It's an epic conflict, bigger than both world wars combined (why else would we need such draconian security measures and abrogation of rights). The very survival of our country depends on the outcome.

If that is indeed the case, the country must immediately be mobilized to a war footing. A military draft must be reinstated. Taxes must of course be raised. And the county's manufacturing sector must be re-tooled for war. We'll probably have to bring back gasoline rationing as well.

Instead, what do we get? Tax cuts for the rich, and a directive to keep shopping.
