As You Peasant About
They're laughing at you, promising intangibles
as you peasant about, scolding fellow
citizens in a democracy for calling politicians
on their obvious lies as they dine out on
your crumbs, depriving you
of a meal, backdropped by their own abundant
cupboards--because it feels good for them to
play you, even if and when you die of this
trickledown desperation, a deliberate drip to
keep the peasants bustling on their behalf.
That's why they laugh so much.
They're not joyous; they just enjoy this.
